Fragments: Expressionist Portraits

Born and raised in New York City, Caren (CJ) now makes her home in the Poconos. She is a visual artist and psychotherapist working in private practice.  Among her many degrees, she has a  MFA from the School of Visual Arts in NYC and a Masters in Social Work in 2005 from NYU.

Shapiro focuses on identifying and understanding the societal conditions that undermine people’s agency, freedom, and choice through use of bold expressionist painting. Her portrait work in this show celebrates the uniqueness of the individual.
