Joan Glusiec and Doris Cresko
Side by Side
Side by Side is an exhibition of works completed by Doris and Joan as they sat together and painted the same scenes. Other than depicting different interpretations of the same scenes, there were no restrictions on size or chosen media. Working together was inspiring for both in providing feedback and inspiration for one another.
Doris and Joan first met in 2018 while participating in the Dutot Museum Plein Air paint out. Though both were working in oils at the time, it was interesting to see how differently each portrayed the landscape in front of them. In subsequent years, they accompanied each other at paint outs and met one another in Monroe and Luzerne counties just to paint together.
Joan Zysling Glusiec studied art education in college and continued on to complete some graduate work in printmaking. Now retired, she is enjoying time spent creating watercolor and oil paintings, and with the influence of Doris, pastel.
Doris Cresko spent twenty five years earning a living selling her creative wares in juried shows across the country. She also served as director of crafts for the Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen. Her work includes leatherwear, watercolors, oil painting, and most recently, pastel. Her work is very expressionistic and colorful.
